Sorbitol Preparation Using Ruthenium Hydrogenation Catalyst

Sorbitol is prepared from hydrolysed starch solutions by a two stage hydrogenation process: first over a Ni catalyst, and then—after acidification—over a Ru catalyst at 100−180°C and 35–140 bar.
